Soundboard & Brace Tuning
The most important part that determines the sound character of stringed instruments is the soundboard. Because the soundboard contributes significantly to the oud sound directly and also transmits the vibrations from the string to the other body parts such as the air inside the body. For this reason, I believe that in order to obtain the sound we desire, the soundboard and braces must be specially tuned during the production process.
A variety of analysis techniques can be used to tune the soundboard and braces of oud. No doubt the most useful of them is the Chladni technique. But I also use acoustic analysis like a sound spectrum. By evaluating this information together, I can make more detailed adjustments to the soundboard thickness and brace heights.
